RFC Weekly - 23rd October 2017

It is fair to say that RFC Weekly maybe a bit misleading for these blog posts given my current trend.

For a number of reasons, I just have less available time. Part of this is because I'm spending a lot more time exercising - nothing too exciting, just a number of walks with the wife during the week. Not only is the exercise good for me, it's nice to spend time with the wife - definitely a good choice on a work life balance.

But with a busy work schedule, long commute and exercise - I've not had as much time as previous to blog or work on my side projects.

That being said, I would like to focus some more time to it. I'll see how I get on.

TeamCity

I've been doing a fair amount with TeamCity recently (as discussed last time).

I've even touched on Kotlin DSL. While I really like the idea of using a DSL which can be checked into source control - I'm suprised there appears to be little reference to Kotlin language - very little reference on how to use it.

I'm finding that I have to build what I want locally through the Web UI - download that as Kotlin (which is a button press in TeamCity) - and then apply that my source controlled Kotlin project.

I'm sure there must be a better way - but I've yet to find it.

Docker

Again, I talked last time about a Docker based project.

That has been put on hold at the moment - partly because of lack of time and because I've sent my workhorse laptop off to my lad.

He's in the middle of Journalism masters - and his laptop had been sent off for screen repair. Thus his need is greater than mine in the immediate term.

Hopefully I shoudl have back by mid November - at that point I can get back to Docker.

ROI Articles

I'd like to get around 4-5 more ROI articles by the end of the year. Its been a good while since my last posting - something I am acutely aware of.

Even with so many articles on the subject, I still find that I'm presented with weekly (if not daily) subjects that could do with being addressed.

So fingers crossed for one in the next few weeks.
